As it’s the start of a New Year, we thought we’d look back at all the fantastic and memorable events that have happened in our local area month by month in 2018. Were you there? Did you take part?
January: Leyland’s Community Radio Station was given a licence for the provision of a service on the FM waveband.
February: Chorley Council recommended that planning permission should be granted for KFC to open a restaurant on Buckshaw Village.
March: Chorley Council approved the KFC application for Buckshaw Village. Buckshaw Village was covered in lots of snow! Buckshaw Village held its annual Easter Event, with help from a number of local businesses and community groups.
April: Chorley Grand Prix was here and saw 150 of the countries top riders take on the 116 mile course which passed through Buckshaw Village. Nana Jan’s officially launched after rebranding from Buckshaw Fishbar. Did you see Lightning McQueen?
May: The local elections took place to decide who would be elected as our Councillor for the ‘Astley & Buckshaw’ and the ‘Clayton & Whittle’ Wards. There was also the election for Euxton Parish council. Our annual village wide photographic competition was launched with 2018’s theme being ‘Buckshaw at its best’.
June: The 2018 FIFA World Cup held in Russia began. We dreamed ‘it’ would be coming home, but alas they were only dreams. Maybe next time!
July: The much loved Charnock Richard Northbound services were blocked off to prevent them being used to join the M6 motorway. The World Cup final was held in Russia which saw France beat Croatia 4 - 2 to win the trophy. Ironman was back! This annual event saw hundreds of athletes compete to complete the triathlon and get across that finish line in front of Bolton Town Hall. Buckshaw’s first Pro Wrestling event was held at Unity Place Community Centre, which raised money for our Retirement Village. The Winter Hill fire was put out!
August: United Utilities announced that a hosepipe ban would be introduced at the start of the month, but it rained so the ban was avoided! Buckshaw Hall went under the hammer at a local auction. The results were in, and James Collier took home first place in the 2018 Photographic Competition.
September: Our great friends over at Redrose Estate Agents launched the Great Buckshaw Bake Off. Buckshaw Village saw its very first wedding take place at Unity Place Community Centre, where Steve & Tracey Holland were married. Summer wasn’t over just yet… in collaboration with BVC we launched the Buckshaw Village Big Picnic where families came together for a bite to eat and a fun filled afternoon.
October: In conjunction with BVC the first Buckshaw Village Poppy Campaign was launched, and we covered the village in Poppies. We also launched the annual Christmas Shoebox Appeal, helping those who have so little and bringing our community together.
November: Did you join our Remembrance Sunday walk and service in conjunction with Buckshaw Village Church? Over 200 people gathered together at the Green Man to remember those who lost their lives fighting for our future. Edinburgh Fringe sellout show Brother’s in Arms came to Buckshaw Village and wowed our Village with a fantastic and moving performance. Our Shoebox Appeal came to a close and this year we had filled an amazing 355 boxes thanks to both residents and businesses. Thanks so much!
December: Santa came to Buckshaw Village! The tour of our village saw Santa and his reindeer visit a number of locations on the village, ending his journey at the Community Centre where the lights on the village Christmas tree were switched on.
