Buckshaw Youth Association Report 2018-19

Recently we caught up with Aidy Riggott, Chair of Buckshaw Youth Association about how the 2018-19 sessions have been. Here’s what Aidy had to say:

“We opened for a

total of 27 Friday evening sessions, with total membership reaching the 180 mark and total attendance passing the 1400 mark. Membership remained free and entry remained at just £1 per session. Our average weekly attendance remained around 55, reaching peaks of 70+ on multiple occasions as the year came to a close.

As always, I am eternally grateful for the support provided by Secretary Alan Platt, Vice Chair Lee Williams and Treasurer Tayo Nong. Without them, Buckshaw Youth Association would not exist. I must thank our home grown former members Izzy Trainor, Harvey Taylor, Chelsea Edgington, Katie Platt, Elliott Hull, Lucia Bradley and Naomi Wood who help lead the sessions on a Friday evening along with Isobel Hancock who joined the volunteer team part way though the year. Once again we were joined by the team from MACY (Music & Arts for Creative Youth) ably led by Zoe who ran their popular wide variety of craft and creative projects.

As the year kicked off, Lee Williams updated our GDPR policy and ensured our processes and documents were in order. In December we were visited by Cllr Debra Platt who brought lots of festive backdrops and costumes and arranged lots of fun photos for members and volunteers alike! At Christmas we joined forces with many organisations including The BVCA, Buckshaw Village Church, Friends of Buckshaw Village, Green Man Marketing, SJL Heating, Sharples Joinery, RMG and many others to hold a fabulous and highly memorable Christmas Event in Buckshaw Village

Our Facebook page (now with over 300 Likes - ) is proving popular in keeping parents informed of our weekly activities and opening dates, as is our Twitter account.

Finally I must once again thank Alan Platt for the continued variety his purchasing brings to our tuck shop, Lee Williams for his never ending mopping and sweeping on a Friday night and Tayo Nong for keeping all of our accounts in order, and to all three for the continued support offered to younger members of the team and for the good humour, support and advice they offer to me and everyone else involved with running the Friday evening sessions.

It is hugely appreciated!”
