Big Changes Lie Ahead at Botany Bay

As you may have seen in the local press or on social media, plans for a major residential and retail development on land near Botany Bay have been submitted to Chorley Council. Members of the Development Control Committee will now visit the site to see it for themselves, and a special session will then be arranged to consider the proposal in detail. The land was identified for development in the Council’s local plan, and although there are four separate requests for outline planning consent, Members have been advised to treat them as a single application. The requests include two proposed housing developments totalling 288 luxury homes, and an application to revamp the existing building which was built in 1855 alongside the creation of retail space which would include a nursery, hotel and associated car parking, and a children’s play area. The remodelled and refurbished mill will be retained at the heart of the new village, but will be stripped back to its original state, with all existing modern extensions and lean-to structures being removed and some of the heritage feature being restored. The proposal would see 300,000 square feet of retail and leisure space and 300,000 square feet of employment space developed to create a fashion and lifestyle outlet village. The vision is to create a retail village of the highest quality, bringing high quality brands to the area. There will be up to 67 units, with restaurant units bordering a large, bright central square which will offer a selection of cuisines. Outdoor seating areas will front onto the banks of the canal, creating a truly unique dining experience.
